Your responsibilities:

Requirements:

Sustainable multifunctional forest management for national forest policy development in China

To strengthen our team, we are looking for support for our forest management project in China.

Project Overview

Title: Sustainable multifunctional forest management for national forest policy development in China.

Project Goal: National policies for multifunctional sustainable forest management practices are strengthened based on a continued bilateral forest-policy dialogue and considering the results from project implementation in Shanxi province, which should be further tested and refined in parts of the NFGA pilot site network.

Donor: Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity of Germany (BMLEH)

Project term: 01.2024 – 06.2026, with possible extension to 12.2027

Job description:

Position: Chief Technical Advisor (CTA) and International Forestry Consultant.

Period: January – June 2026, with possible extension to December 2027

Tasks: Within the framework of a forestry project in China, the expert will carry out the following tasks and leading an international team of experts in close coordination with the DFS Backstopper:

  • Coordination of forest management (FM) and forest policy (PL) project components;
  • Exchange with the National Forest and Grassland Association (NFGA) and both Project Implementation Units (PIU);
  • Ensuring the synergies between the policy component at national level and the forest management component at provincial level;
  • Content design of the policy component together with the PIU;
  • Providing overall technical advice to the FM component in all required working fields, in particular in silviculture, SFM, FMP development, FMP implementation, monitoring, forest policy and legislation and finance;
  • Advisor to and close cooperation with the international long-term FM expert in the project implementation areas;
  • Advisor to and close cooperation with the international long-term PL expert in Beijing;
  • Advisor to and close cooperation with the NPC;
  • Planning of consulting missions and guiding technical advisors;
  • Reporting including progress and final reports, and project documentation.
Key qualifications:
  • University degree in forest management, environmental studies or other relevant fields;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the field of coordination and management of projects in the context of international cooperation;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the field of Forestry;
  • Experience in projects about multifunctional and sustainable forest management and forest policy;
  • Good knowledge of the political structures of the Chinese forest sector are advantageous
  • Experience in the cooperation with government authorities and private sector in the field of forestry
  • At least 2 years working experience in China or Asia is advantageous.
