Your Tasks
Within the framework of a forestry project in Ethiopia, you will carry out the following tasks and responsibilities under the supervision of, and in close coordination with, the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA). In addition, you will provide support to DFS HQ in the capacity of a project manager:
Tasks forestry project in Ethiopia (Afforestation Component)
- Support overall project management in line with KfW standards.
- Lead and oversee all consulting activities related to afforestation.
- Design, implement, and maintain an M&E system for plantation success and financial progress.
- Assist in financial management of FC funds (disbursements, accounting, reporting) as per PIM and financing agreements.
- Manage procurement of goods and services under the afforestation component.
- Coordinate planning and mobilization of consultant staff and resources.
- Facilitate communication between PCU and local implementing agencies.
- Organize and document national-level workshops on afforestation.
- Monitor implementation timelines, budgets, and resource use for afforestation activities.
- Identify and resolve implementation bottlenecks.
- Ensure timely and structured reporting, including six-monthly progress and physical achievement reports.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and social standards (ESMP).
- Promote good governance and transparency.
- Strengthen linkages among regional forest institutions.
- Assess training needs and deliver capacity building for local staff and farmers at Woreda, Kebele, and Got levels.
- Support awareness-raising activities in target communities.
- Support afforestation planning and site/model selection at Woreda and regional levels.
- Refine forest management planning tools based on lessons learned.
- Supervise use of GIS and database systems for afforestation site planning and monitoring.
Tasks as project manager
Project conception and management, acquisition, proposal writing, financial aspects of project management, strategic business development, willingness to acquire new skills. Desk work is combined with regular field trips and partner visits in the project regions, as well as direct exchange with donors (e.g. GIZ, KfW).
What you bring along
- You have completed a degree in Forestry or Forestry Sciences.
- You have 3 or more years of professional experience in forestry and development cooperation.
- You are proficient in using common MS Office applications; knowledge of GIS and database software is an advantage.
- You are business-fluent in English language, German and French is an asset.
- Personally, you impress with a team-oriented, independent, and flexible working style, as well as a positive attitude. You are used to working with high precision and meeting deadlines even during intensive work phases.
- You have a quick grasp of new information while working in a thorough and detail-oriented manner.
- You are willing to work and live in Ethiopia and other African and Asian countries.
